Would like to bring my Dragon alter-ego to the tree for this ... But a 3am start time is a real stretch even if it is the weekend - and I'm on the Western edge of Europe.
Hope it goes well. These sort of events can lead to big, beautiful things in MMO RP.

I can't blame you at all for not wanting to attend a meeting that starts that late. It is unfortunately hard to pick a time (and often even a day) that works well for both Europe and the United States (stupid round rotating planets.)

We'll probably vary the time a bit once we get going, to better work in those further east, but we figured for our first meeting it was important that we get a time when most of our current membership can attend.

Many thanks to everyone who turned out for our first get-together! Highlights include a round of introductions in typically chaotic Dragon fashion, a "green side pride" pep talk by Souhi, and the kickoff of our first long-term cabal storyline, titled Anura Divina. Our current plan is to run things similarly to TSW's investigation missions, with a new tier offering a different mystery to solve each week and random RP happening between. Any Dragon agent is welcome to participate, not just characters in the cabal!

Anura Divina Tier 1: A Tad Overpowered

The mystery begins with the tale of an Illuminati operative named Thaddeus Glendower, better known as Tad to his friends. Until recently, Tad has been a fairly unremarkable guy ... he's forty-something, balding, bulbous, boringly corporate, barely average in his accomplishments, and lacking the blessing of Gaia. That last point has troubled him greatly in recent months, seeing so many of his peers granted pseudo-immortality whilst he goes without.

Naturally, it's the Illuminati way to keep up with the Joneses, but Tad has taken his jealousy and greed to obsessive extremes. Tad really wants to cheat death like his bee-kissed buddies, and he's been trying to acquire various dark artifacts to help with this particular goal ... and after many failed attempts, it seems he might actually have succeeded.

The Dragon was recently alerted to Mr. Glendower's presence in Egypt, where he'd hidden himself away after causing far more bloodshed and destruction than ought be possible for a single mediocre and doughy agent. The green team ambushed him in his hideaway, seeking to retire him quietly with a well-placed bullet to the brain. As predicted, he collapsed to the floor. In a less expected development, he promptly got up and ran away.

It seems clear that Tad has acquired something to grant him bee-like freedom from death ... but what? The only clues lie in a notebook recovered from the ambush, stained with ink and scrawled with unknown symbols. One particular page may hold the key to cracking the code ...

While the page has already been deciphered by the impressively quick work of Valanthe, we'll wait until next week to post spoilers, should anyone wish to work on the puzzle in their spare time.

Last but certainly not least, we'd like to offer a warm welcome to our newest member, Ayano "Kichijoten" Korimitsu! Better known as Kichi (or Wasabi to some), she is notable for having long-term familial ties to the Dragon and a unique power that she keeps mostly secret. She does not speak, instead relying on a text-to-speech application on her mobile phone, but don't let that stop you from saying hello if you see her around the usual haunts!

Already!? That's, um, yeah, impressive.

This was a lot of fun! Thank you for creating something that peaks the player's and the character's curiosity. I look forward to next week!

The green team's Gobi-dwelling gatherers and gumshoes give grateful greetings to a genial gal named Dylan "Drifter" Hommel. In addition to joining New Xanadu's translation team, Dylan has an interesting precognitive power -- the chaotic doodles in her notebook often provide tiny glimpses into future events. The particulars of these predictions are unknown to Dylan (and most everyone else), but are utilized by the Dragon at a level far above the heads of Nizu and friends.

In other news, as our second cabal meeting looms nigh, it's time to share the solution to last week's puzzle!

Spoiler: Anura Divina Tier 1 - SolutionShow

What does this mean? What is Tad rambling about? With this new information analyzed, perhaps Friday's get-together will offer another lead ...

Rogues and researchers rambling in the rain? Why, it must be Friday!

A number of interesting issues were discussed at this week's meeting, starting with a speech from Souhi on social relations between members of rival societies, including a sobering reminder that when the chips are down, factional loyalty trumps personal attachment. The incomparable Minji of Plan Bee also addressed the assembled, requesting assistance in tracking down the absent apprentice of one Nassim Fadakin. Why does the green team care about a missing Templar? As always, the answer lies somewhere in the Dragon's inscrutable models.

The Tad Glendower situation was addressed once more, but while progress has been made, things are getting curiouser and curiouser (not to mention creepier ...)

Anura Divina Tier 2: Slimier Than Honey

Shortly after last week's meeting, Morgan was able to crack the cipher and translate Tad's ramblings, leading to the translation of the rest of the notebook. Likewise, Shin used his retrocognitive ability on the book in an attempt to divine further information. In addition to sensing emotions corroborating descriptions of Tad's mindset (strong impressions of jealousy, obsession and encroaching madness), Shin also received a vague image of some sort of dark and slimy creature. Ewwwww.

The translated notebook offered up the address of an apartment in al-Merayah. According to his writings, Tad had occupied the apartment prior to relocating to the hiding place where he was caught and (ineffectively) shot. Investigation of this residence yielded another note, another puzzle, and the revelation that Tad had done a little advance planning for the benefit of his pursuers.

Ah, the Illuminati do love their labyrinthine schemes. Tad may be losing his marbles, but his cleverness clearly hasn't suffered. What is the significance of the pyramids-and-eye diagram, and what could possibly be "better than a bee?" Will the solution truly reveal the source of his power, or is he merely stringing everyone along?

While Morgan has made partial progress on this puzzle, it has not yet been fully solved. New Xanadu welcomes assistance from any and all Dragon operatives!

The hidden haven of honeydew-havers hollers out a hearty hello to its newest member Jiang-Gin! A mysterious tattooed man who lost all memory of his past, Jiang seems to identify with the concept of archaeology. In joining New Xanadu, he hopes that researching historical relics will reveal clues about his own lost history.

Speaking of ongoing mysteries, here's a file photo and brief summary of everyone's favorite balding and bee-hating bastard of the blues, the insignificant yet invidious madman responsible for the Anura Divina saga, Tad Glendower.

As of today, the pyramid puzzle presented at last week's meeting remains undeciphered. The solution will be posted on Thursday, so only one day remains to solve the mystery! If you're completely stuck:
